THE ORGANIZATION
Sirius designs and manufactures chemical injection systems and instrumentation packages for upstream and midstream oil and gas operators. Its equipment runs in some of the harshest production environments in the world — Western Canada, the Permian, and increasingly the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America — where precision matters and downtime costs money.
Sirius is a private equity-backed manufacturer in a high-growth phase. Since acquisition, the company has invested in the systems, processes, and people needed to operate at scale: ERP modernization, PLM implementation, international expansion, and product line investment are all in motion. Engineering sits at the center of that agenda.
Sirius’s Core Values define its culture, drive its work, and guide its commitment to excellence. They are the operating standard for every member of the engineering team — and the Vice President, Engineering is expected to model and reinforce them.
Core Values
Continuous Innovation: Innovation begins with listening to understand and transforms curiosity into impactful solutions. It is a continuous improvement loop that channels learning back into our products, processes, and people.
Integrity: We do what we say we will do. We take responsibility for our actions and own our commitments to become trusted advisors that clients rely on.
Collaboration: We achieve excellence by working together with trust, humility, open communication, and a shared purpose. Collaboration means ownership across every step of the process.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Vice President, Engineering leads the company’s engineering function – mechanical, electrical, and firmware – across new product development, sustaining engineering, and engineering change management. The role reports to the President & CEO and is a member of the senior leadership team.
This is a hands-on operating role with a strategic mandate. The successful candidate steps into a department with active product programs in flight, an engineering team positioned to scale, and a clear set of expectations: deliver the current portfolio to commitment; build the engineering processes and KPIs that a scaling manufacturer requires; lead engineering’s contribution to the company’s product lifecycle management (PLM) and ERP integration; and develop the team, including identifying and developing a successor.
The work is technical, the standards are high, and the culture is grounded in three values that show up in how the team operates every day: continuous innovation, integrity, and collaboration. The Vice President, Engineering is expected to lead by those values and reinforce them across the function.
Responsibilities
In support of the organization’s strategic objectives, the successful candidate will be accountable for the following key responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop a cross-disciplinary engineering team — currently six engineers across mechanical, electrical, and firmware — with a clear expectation to scale the team in line with product program growth and operational footprint.
- Develop a clear succession bench, including identification, development, and demonstrated readiness of a second-in-command.
- Build and lead an engineering culture aligned with Sirius’s values: continuous innovation in product and process, integrity in commitments delivered, and collaboration across functions and disciplines.
- Coach, mentor, and develop engineering leaders while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Product Strategy & Development
- Own the full product development lifecycle: concept, design, prototyping, validation, certification, launch, sustaining engineering, and end-of-life management.
- Improve products in production through second- and third-generation iterations that enhance functionality, reduce cost of goods, improve manufacturability, and add functionality requested by customers. Drive product reliability, manufacturability, and cost reduction across the active portfolio.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute the engineering strategy and long-term product roadmap aligned with business objectives and market opportunities.
Engineering Operations & Performance
- Lead the company’s PLM implementation, including BOM data integrity, item master discipline, change control, and engineering data integration into the ERP environment as that migration progresses.
- Establish engineering KPIs and operating cadence: NPI cycle time, engineering change order velocity, design-for-manufacturing discipline, and gross margin contribution from new and improved products.
- Implement disciplined engineering governance, including design reviews, stage-gate processes, engineering documentation, and technical risk management.
- Drive operational excellence through standardized engineering processes, continuous improvement initiatives, and data-driven decision-making.
Technical Excellence & Regulatory Compliance
- Nice to have: Lead engineering compliance for hazardous-location product certification: CSA C22.2 No. 30, Class I Division 1 and Division 2 (North American hazardous locations), ATEX, and IECEx Zones 1 and 2.
- Nice to have: Own product compliance with API standards relevant to controlled-volume positive displacement metering pumps (API 675), with adjacent fluency across API 674 and API 676, as applicable.
- Ensure engineering standards, technical documentation, and product validation processes support regulatory compliance, quality, and long-term product reliability.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, engineering methods, and product innovations that strengthen Sirius’s competitive advantage.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service to ensure engineering deliverables align with commercial and operational realities.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure products are designed for manufacturability, serviceability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Incorporate customer feedback, field performance data, and market insights into product enhancements and future product development priorities.
- Support successful product launches and commercialization through effective cross-functional planning and execution.
Executive Leadership & Business Contribution
- Represent the engineering function in management, board, and investor reviews.
- Contribute as a key member of the senior leadership team, supporting strategic planning, capital investment decisions, and organizational growth initiatives.
- Lead engineering resource planning, budgeting, and prioritization to maximize engineering capacity and business value.
- Communicate engineering priorities, progress, risks, and opportunities with clarity to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- Develop and execute the 2027 Engineering Business Plan in partnership with the CEO, successfully delivering the agreed-upon strategic priorities and business objectives by the end of 2027.
- Retain, develop, and motivate the engineering team to deliver year-one goals and operational objectives while fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Develop a deep understanding of Sirius’s products, customers, and competitive strengths to successfully lead future product innovation and engineering strategy.
The Individual
Given the pivotal role this individual will play in achieving the company’s strategic objectives and supporting the success of the organization, the successful candidate must possess the following education, experience, competencies, and attributes.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or a related discipline). Equivalent senior leadership experience will be considered.
- Professional Engineering designation is ideal.
Experience
Must-have:
- 10+ years of progressive engineering leadership in a product development environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading and scaling cross-disciplinary engineering teams across mechanical, electrical, and firmware.
- Track record of taking products from concept to commercialization in a regulated, certified-product environment.
- Background in oil and gas, instrumentation, or industrial manufacturing.
Nice-to-have:
- Hazardous-location product certification experience: CSA C22.2 No. 30, Class I Division 1 and Division 2, ATEX, and IECEx.
- Experience with API pump standards relevant to chemical injection or metering applications (API 675 essential; API 674 and API 676 helpful).
- Experience leading or contributing to ERP and PLM integration in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior leadership experience in a private equity-backed company.
- Direct experience with chemical injection and/or controlled-volume pumping applications.
- Experience leading a function through ERP and/or PLM go-live in a make-to-order manufacturing environment.
- Industrial controls or automation systems background.
- Embedded systems and firmware development fluency.
- Experience improving product reliability and field performance metrics.
Competencies & Knowledge
- Strategic Product Leadership: Develops and executes product strategy that supports business growth, innovation, and long-term market success.
- Servant & Hands-On Leadership: Leads from the front by coaching, empowering, and supporting the team; willingly rolls up their sleeves, removes obstacles, and creates an environment where individuals and teams can consistently deliver their best.
- Execution & Accountability: Takes ownership, follows through on commitments, and consistently delivers high-quality results on time and within budget.
- Self-Directed: Operates with a high degree of initiative, sound judgment, and independence while keeping leadership informed and aligned.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Builds strong partnerships across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, and Service to achieve shared business objectives.
- Communication & Influence: Communicates with clarity, builds alignment across technical and business stakeholders, and earns trust through transparency, credibility, and consistent performance.
Personal Profile
- Product-Oriented: Passionate about developing scalable products and continuously improving them over time, rather than simply delivering one-off engineering projects.
- Authentic & Trustworthy: Builds trust through integrity, reliability, and consistently delivering on commitments.
- Humble & Team-First: Confident without ego, values collaboration, and develops others while celebrating team success.
- Resilient & Adaptable: Thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and remains composed while navigating change and competing priorities.
