THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, Corporate Services will report to the President and will provide executive leadership and oversight to the Corporate Human Resources, Payroll, Information Technology, and HSE Departments for the Applus+ Canada Business Unit, ensuring proactive support and management to execute strategic initiatives and achieve operational excellence.
This position is responsible for supporting, developing, and implementing strategic plans in accordance with the mission and vision of the organization as well as managing the administrative functions of Canadian operations, and coordinating office processes and procedures to ensure organizational and operational effectiveness and efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate Services
- Direct and lead the Safety, Payroll, Information Technology, and Human Resources Departments for Canada; ensuring support, effectiveness, direction, guidance, and utilization of staff to properly support all operational units
- Participate as a member of the Canada Leadership Team to help plan, establish, and execute strategies and goals for the Business Unit to support operational growth and budget attainment
- Demonstrate each department’s alignment to corporate priorities and overall strategy by developing and stewarding key performance indicators for each functional area
- Provide continuous improvement throughout the organization to measure and improve efficiency, service quality and timeliness to support operational excellence and execution
Health, Safety, and Environment
- Oversee, manage, and direct the HSE Department for Canada; this includes resource planning, measuring department effectiveness, setting department goals in line with and supporting Business Unit goals
- Manage, organize, and oversee the HSE program including safety policies, programs, practices, training, and all other components of a successful HSE Program including compliance with client specific requirements
- Ensure compliance with Federal and provincial regulations and Applus Energy and Industry Corporate policies
Human Resources
- Oversee, manage, and direct the Human Resources Department for Canada; this includes resource planning, measuring department effectiveness, setting department goals in line with and supporting Business Unit goals
- Provide Senior Leadership support with talent planning and development to ensure a capable workforce to deliver annual operational requirements and budget
- Provide and seek legal opinion on personnel related transactions including hiring and termination of staff to minimize litigation exposure; this includes contract review, severance, and other high-risk employment relation actions
- Manage and lead salary, bonus and other compensation programs according to Corporate and local policy and procedures. Counsels and advises management regarding salary planning/compensation in regard to internal equity, promotions, reclassifications, transfers ensuring fair pay practices and compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Develop and lead the performance appraisal programs under Company policy ensuring annual performance reviews are completed for each employee while maintaining positive employee experience
- Ensure compliance with Federal and provincial regulations and Applus+ Energy and Industry Corporate policies and Decision Level Authorities
Payroll
- Lead and direct the Payroll Department and action plans directly tied into measurable results, great customer service and timely and consistent execution in compliance with federal and provincial regulations and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Manage payroll team and processes to ensure timely and accurate weekly payrolls for multiple legal entities in multiple jurisdictions with complex payroll calculations
- Set, manage, and monitor Payroll Department deadlines, goals, processing times, and key performance indictors with continuous improvement in line with Company goals and expectations
Information Technology
- Lead and direct the Information Technology Department and action plans directly tied into measurable results, great customer service and timely and consistent setting department goals in line with and supporting Business Unit goals
- Ensure compliance with Applus+ Energy and Industry Corporate policies
Other Responsibilities
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, professionalism, and promote a positive customer service attitude internally and externally
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager

THE INDIVIDUAL
Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Human Resources, preferred
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration would be considered an asset
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in managing Human Resources, HSE, IT, and Payroll Departments
- 10+ years of experience in the Canadian Oil & Gas markets, preferred
Competencies and Knowledge
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience, including experience supervising and coaching others
- Understanding of standard construction and operational practices
- Working knowledge of applicable legislative requirements for Human Resources, Payroll, IT and HSE
- Working knowledge of emerging industry trends and developments in key departmental areas
- Experience supervising and coaching others
- Knowledge of Project Management principles
