Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Intermediate Estimator will be responsible for providing Estimating Services to support the Business Development and Estimating department.  The Intermediate Estimator will be responsible for processing, handling, and distributing various documents, drawings and Tender Packages as required by the team.  The Intermediate Estimator will be part of the Estimating and Project team environments.

The Intermediate Estimator will work on Conceptual Budgets, Design-Build Proposals and Hard Bid Estimates, including quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and Sub-Contractor pricing.  The Intermediate Estimator will be part of the tender call and review of Supplier/Sub-Contractor quotes and awards.  The Intermediate Estimator will have sufficient knowledge of all Clark Builders software and be able to operate and understand the information attained through the software tools.



  • Follow up with invited Sub-Contractors/Suppliers to confirm scope of work and pricing requirements.
  • Maintain Sub-Contractor/Supplier relations.
  • Maintain unit price and productivity knowledge and database.
  • Prepare accurate and complete estimates.
  • Work in collaboration with Operations staff, clients, and design consultants.
  • Take part in Project Team meetings including presentation of estimates and other pre-construction deliverables.
  • Maintain Career Progression plan.
  • Attend training courses as required by team leader.
  • Adhere to Clark Builders’ policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic internet and intranet functions.



  • Build solid, trusting, respectful relationships with team members, internal and external stakeholders, as well as trade partners.
  • Integration into the Business Development, Operations, and Estimating team as a valued asset for your positive, can-do attitude and impeccable work resulting in repeat client engagement.
  • In collaboration with team members, deliver high quality estimating deliverables within established deadlines and with minimal oversight.


Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:



  • A Post-Secondary Certificate/Degree in Engineering or the equivalent of a designated Professional Engineer or a Technical School graduate in a Construction related discipline.



  • 5 – 10 years office Estimating experience with a General Contractor.
  • 6 months to 2 years on-site experience.
  • Exposure or understanding of principles of lean thinking.
  • Experience with coaching teams in collaborative planning.
  • Experience with continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Canadian Construction Contracts.

  • Develop Sub-Contractor work scopes for tendering.
  • Identify bonding and insurance requirements.
  • Take part in tender closings.
  • Understand client requirements and incorporate into estimation process.
  • Ability to visualize end products without drawings.
  • Able to derive alternate designs for cost or time savings.
