THE OPPORTUNITY
The Vice President, Finance and Business Administration will report to the President & CEO and is responsible for leading the organization’s accounting and finance, human resources, business operations and administration, information technology, risk management, and merchandising initiatives across the organization. The successful individual will be accountable for the overall corporate services within the organization with a primary emphasis on the financial operations of the business including financial reporting and modelling, forecasting, budget management, payroll, variance analysis, risk management, 50/50, board reporting, trust fund management, team salary caps, capital projects, company by-laws and GST.
The VP Finance & Business Administration will lead a team of 4 direct reports including Finance, Retail/Merchandising, IT and HR/Business Operations along with 6 indirect reports and seasonal game day staff. Due to the nature of the business and the streamlined operations, all EE leadership and staff work all game days to ensure an efficient and outstanding game day experience for their customers, their fans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports (monthly and quarterly)
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
- Work with the external auditors in the development of the annual audit plan and manage the execution of the annual audit, including oversight for preparation of the audited financial statements and all supporting working papers
- Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions
- Works with Club management to manage and monitor compliance with the salary cap, and to coordinate CFL salary cap audit
- Game Day financial reporting to Management
- Maintain EE Corporate By-Laws and all reporting on the Trust Fund Corporation
- Capital project planning and execution including Corporate Capital Projects and Stadium upgrades
- Responsible for the 50/50 for game days including all financial reporting
- Oversee and approve payroll
Budget Preparation
- Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation, and prepare the annual budget in consultation with other members of Club management
- Preparation of the budget portion of a five (5) year rolling business plan
Trust Fund Management
- Oversight and management of the EE’s trust fund in conjunction with the trust fund executive including liaising with the 3rd party firm on the investment portfolio, working with a financial modeller on fund allocation and distribution and financial reporting.
Board Reporting
- Prepare and report quarterly and annual financial reports to the Audit & Finance Committee
- Work with the Club’s senior management team to prepare and present to the Board of Directors the financial model of a 5-year business plan on an annual basis
- Prepare the financial portion of the Annual Report and liaise with the Board’s Audit and Finance Committee and the external auditors
- Full Board reporting and presentation responsibility of all financial aspects of the EE and Trust Fund Corporation
- Board of Directors and Board Committee support
Business Operations/Administration
- City of Edmonton partnership and relationship, key member of contract negotiations, stadium lease etc
- Key participant in Commonwealth Master Plan with follow through to the City capital budget
- Key contact for game day Food & Beverage Concession partners
- Game Day operations (direct & indirect staff)
- Parking planning and logistics
- Stadium security and accreditation
- Health & Safety
- Participation in Committee meetings as appointed by the President & CEO
- Risk Management (Insurance)
- Supplier contract support
- Liaison with Legal
- External Relations
- Special Projects as assigned by President & CEO including Board meeting preparation (materials, pre-reads, agenda)
- CFL league office liaison (insurance, risk management, etc)
- Hall of Fame – regional
- Grey Cup bids
- Contract negotiations as assigned by President & CEO
- Other duties as assigned by President & CEO
Supervise
- Coach and mentor a team of 4 direct reports (Finance, Retail / Merchandise, IT and HR/Business Operations) and 6 indirect reports, along with seasonal game day staff
Game Day Duties
- With a fully developed understanding of the relevant systems, processes and controls related to the game day 50/50 lottery, monitor, and serve as the main point of contact for the lottery at each home game
- Monitor monetary areas of game day
- Respond to Incidents from the Command Center
FIRST YEAR – MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- Continuity in the financial management of the EE with minimal interruption during transition and in the year ahead
- Accuracy in reporting is demonstrated providing a sense of trust and confidence for the President & CEO and Board
- Demonstrated ability to work in a pressurized environment that moves fast where quick turnarounds are required
THE INDIVIDUAL
Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of The Edmonton Football Team and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:
Education
- University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Commerce or Business Management/Administration
- CPA designation or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial responsibility
- 5 years operating at a financial leadership level having managed teams and having had responsibility for full financial reporting
- Experience with financial reporting for a variety of business structures, including not-for-profit corporations, and partnerships
- Knowledge and experience with trust companies an asset
- Board Reporting experience an asset

Expected Hours of Work
Days and hours of work are typically standard office hours, Monday through Friday. It is expected that all staff of the EE, are available and work game days with all people needed to ensure successful game day operations. As this role is part of the leadership team, no overtime will be compensated; however, flexibility does exist.
